Why make a will?

There are a lot of good reasons why you should make a will:

  • a will allows you to decide how your assets are distributed and will avoid intestacy
  • you choose who you wish to act as your Executors, whose responsibility it will be administer your estate
  • if you have children, you may decide who should act as their guardians
  • if you are not married or in a civil partnership, your partner will not automatically inherit your assets; a will allows you to provide for your partner
  • a consideration of tax planning will make sure that you pay no more Inheritance Tax than is necessary
